Bali's Colourful Iron Art - Finest Craftsmanship with an obsessed eye for the details
Aktualisiert: 7. Juli 2020
The diversity evident in Indonesia's 300 plus ethnic groups is reflected in the diversity of its art. Just as every ethnic group throughout the archipelago has its own language & dialect. It's own cuisine, traditional dresses and traditional homes. They have also developed their own textiles, ornaments, carvings and iron welding techniques.
Today we would like to share a real success story. A random encounter which has lead us to be the only company in Indonesia which offers an almost endless range of different Iron Sculptures & Ornaments
Almost 2 years ago - on one of our sourcing trips - we accidentally found a local craftsman named Nyoman Nuriani. He used to work in Java for a couple of years before he moved back to Bali. In Java he learned how to establish a metal production site. He hired workers from all around the island and passed his precious knowledge to them. Nyoman taught them how to weld, cut and process iron plates. Time after time creating beautiful & colourful iron sculptures became his passion. He quickly enhanced his business to a state where he employed almost 100 workers within just a year!
"I quickly established an iron business in Java which gave me the opportunities to provide the locals with meaningful work. By creating new iron sculptures on a monthly basis we could built up a customer network from all around the world" , Nyoman recalls.
But unfortunately private circumstances forced him to move back to Bali. He had to take care about his sick mother and his brother. No time left for his business anymore. This tremendous situation forced him to walk down another path. His business in Java started to fall apart due to his absence. At this state he struggled to make a living and could not think of anything he could do in Bali to earn some income.
Our encounter with him created an inner courage. We have seen a real chance to make a change here. A strong feeling to build up an Iron Business together with Nyoman lead us to a long-term collaboration. Bali's north-west seemed to be the best spot as metal suppliers from Java could supply us with iron plates and specific welding equipment. Nyoman's knowledge and our network of wholesalers could be the perfect fit. We created synergy effects which lead us to where we are today.
A success story we would like to share with the world. 2 years of hard work, dedication, thousands of fine adjustments and the right people allowed us to build up a factory with more than 80 employees. All locals, all one big family.
Right now, we create new sophisticated iron figures in collaboration with our manufacturers on a weekly basis. They do the magic and create unique and handmade iron art in any kind of style.
Each unique piece of every collection we offer is handcrafted by highly skilled and dedicated artisans. Traditional craftsmanship is infused into all our products and every item in our collection echoes the love and skill of the hands that made them.
We are proud that this random encounter with Nyoman lead us to this incredible journey. A journey that still continues...
